    OS will not load!

Don't know if this belongs here, but I added a hard drive with the idea I would load windows XP on the new drive, then move everything over then get rid of the old drive. It all went well until I got rid of the old drive and then my OS will not load. I had the old drive as the Master and the new drive as the slave. When I got rid of the old drive I made the new drive the Master, by itself. I have the lone drive set for Master and hooked up properly, and the comp. recognizes the drive, the comp tries booting to floppy then when it tries booting to hard drive it says "error loading OS". When I had the old drive in, it booted and then asked which operating system I wanted to load, the one from the old drive or the new one on the new drive. What do I need to do? I've added the old drive back, as the master and made the new drive the slave again and it works, but I need to get rid of the old drive and just have the new drive, alone, as the Master. By the way, I tried every selection to boot to, in the biios settings, and nothing worked, I always got the same error.

    thanks for any help!

sounds like you might need to reinstall your boot loader.

Did you use a program to move the data? or did you install a clean install of windows and them move the data?

Try running fdisk /mbr from a DOS/Win98 boot disk. That may allow it to boot.

The thingy that tells the system to load the OS. I'm 99,9% sure this is what is wrong with your system now.
