Share files between pc & mac

    Hi,

got a macintosh with mac os X sometimes connected to my home network, the IBM-compatible pc's use Win XP, they're connected through a normal hub.

How can I share files between the two, anyone know a free program?

    Thanks

In the system preferences (white apple box in dock), there is a setting called 'sharing' under network. Click on that, and then enable 'Windows Sharing'. In the bottom of the panel it will now tell you how you can access it from your windows computer.

Go to your windows computer, and select search under the start menu. Type in what it told you on your mac.

make sure they are on the same subnets...i.e. both on 192.168.0.*, not one on 192.168.1.* and the other on 192.168.0.*.

make sure you have the firewall turned off on the XP machine....this means any program like zone alarm or norton internet security, AND the built in SP1 firewall (disable it in network settings).

This method works...I use it all the time to sync my powerbook and windows machines. If it is not working, it is because you have something blocking it.
