    AVS/AEN Information / Tutorial

Alright folks, i've seen a lot of posts recently made about AVS/AEN* sites recently, people seem to have no clue anymore. Below I have jotted down what I know about AVS/AEN sites. Hopefully someone willl be able to make use of it.

Quick disclaimer... some, if not all of the information below is incorrect.

    *AVS = Adult Verification Site
    *AEN = Adult Entertainment Network

The correct term to use is AEN, as Visa decided to have a brain fart and attack AVS and what it stood for. [As a consequence most AEN sites now prohibit using language that states "Signup to this site, and get access to 12398712312980 more sites"]

As far as I know, there are 2 major AEN models that still produce great results [some people say 3 models, but for simplicities sake I'll say 2]

Model 1: Premium AEN Sites - Adultbouncer, Adultsallowed, Deluxepass.
Model 2: Standard AEN Sites - Cyberage, Freenetpass, ProAdult.
(See the end of the thread for a long list of AEN systems)

There are some major differences between the two models.

In a nutshell, the premium AEN model sites provide:

    Hosting
    Content
*Traffic - [From linklists, not all AEN's provide this, some only provide this service for their best looking/performing sites]
*Extra hosting for galleries - [Once again not all AEN's provide this, but most do]
    40-70% Revshare

    --------

While the Standard AEN model provides:

*Hosting - [Some do some dont]
    *Traffic - [Same as above]
Variable PPS / Revshare - Each AEN model is different obviously, but most have a sliding scale model on payouts. As 1 AEN may provide various levels of access. E.G Cyberage (Participating, Preffered & Platinum) - Check out the FAQ for the various pay levels.

    --------

I've heard the standard AEN model members sites be described as glorified TGP galleries. Which isn't far off, however the different between a gallery and AEN site is apparent, since the member can simply select which niche (s)he wishes to view and go through each site to their hearts content.. as apposed to being cj'd around the internet.

The AEN model is ideal for the new webmaster. I started in adult 2 years ago, my first site was an AEN site, and after a bit of practice I've managed to make a living from adult.

A question that I have heard again and again is: "Why shouldn't I just start a paysite instead of an AEN site, I can make more money that way, and the AEN wont take their 50%"

There are many factors to consider when comparing a paysite to an AEN site.

    1. You have to pay the multiple processing fee's - 11-15%
    2. Visa fee's - $750 [I believe that's the going rate now]
    3. Hosting fee's
    4. Advertising fee's
    5. You are no longer part of a community of sites, so retention will drop if you don't know what you're doing.

That's just the tip of the iceburg, when you really think about it the 40%-50% the AEN takes isn't as large as it sounds on paper.

Most new webmasters simply do not have the starting capital to create a paysite. Or the experience in promoting a site.

    --------

So to anyone wishing to start in adult I would suggest going with a Premium AEN site, hire a designer, get your site made, or design it yourself if you cannot afford the $100-800 to get it done [I made the site myself originally then paid a designer out of the profits]

Make some galleries on their hosts, submit, and rake in the cash.

Once again I hope this has been of some use to someone.

By this I assume you mean, could you use content from:

AVS 1 [E.G Adultsallowed] create content, screen caps, movie clips whatever. Then make sites on AVS 2 [E.G Cyberage] to promote AVS 1? Most AVS's are strictly against this. As you are using licensed content from 1 site on another site with the intent of not promoting the original site [at least not directly]

Unless I misunderstood the question, please feel free to rephrase.

Project-Shadow, I have about 8 Participating sites with Cyberage - Is it a waste of time to make this type of site? Should I be creating Platinum instead?

IMO, you should build platinum, and feed them traffic with participatins sites, free sites, galleries, etc.

Don't rely on the AVS list traffic.

Couldn't of said it better myself.
Don't give up on 1 set of sites, but build on them and have a hub to show various levels of sites. More sites = Better when it comes to normal AEN sites, but I cannot stress enough, don't rely solely on linklist traffic, try SEO, galleries.. whatever just get your site out there ;)

Nice thread... really useful for people.

Before people make a decision, it`s worth mentioning again about what program to use (the premium or standard type programs) as the content available and ultimately the members retention will vary significantly.

So who makes or has tamplates I can buy and use build around AES? I'm pretty much the suck when it comes to coding. I might be able to afford something simple and clean to get started my first time out.

That depends on what the webmaster wants to do.
Like I said, i've profited very well from Premium AEN sites, and will stick with them. I haven't had much luck with Standard AEN sites, but as soon as I get a free week i'll be checking them out again.

Retention on Premium AEN's vary greatly as the price tag usually scares alot of potential members away, I have spoken to members who didn't want to sign up because they thought the idea of getting access to 100's of sites was impossible.

Anyone who says AEN is dead is full of shit .. I mean AEN is dead, move on.

                                                          Noob Question

                                                          Hi everyone, first post here.

I'm an expereinced webmaster (well webmistress ;)) looking into branching out into adult sites. I have several dozens of sites, some original content, some turnkeys, some affiliation sites, so I'm pretty familiar with what goes on in non-adult web publishing. However totally new to adult web publishing.

I think I understand the principle of joining an AEN network, what I'm wondering is can you/should you/must you use content provided by these networks? How do sites like topbucks and similar ones fit into the picture? are they like turnkey sites that you can simply paste affliate links on?

Thanks in advance for any replies and for everything I learned in this and other threads.
