    Affiliate Program Decisions, Decisions

After an opinion on something... we have been looking at figures to acquire customers for a dating site (I know it isnt technically up all you guys ally, but I think you guys might be able to contribute well ). One thing we have not talked about is how we would change our form registration (if we are).

    Do we essentially keep it:

    a) Short? - pay out a low amount and take the numbers game
Pros: Large amount of signups, large amount of people added to newsletter. Still can offer co-reg offers at start. *Most attractive to affiliates*
Cons: Getting lower quality lead, as people have not had their hand held through an extensive registration process, they may not understand the website.

For example, lets work this form out to 20cents a payout to the end affiliate.

    or

    b) Long? - pay out a higher amount for a 5 possibly 6 page form and play the quality game
Pros: Getting very good quality lead upon completion, people should understand the site a lot more, theory that people will value the site more because they have spent so long registering.
Cons: Many affiliates might be turned off to working with such a deal, because they will view it as a difficult way to make money, a long form will be impossible to work as co-reg on to other websites (putting the signup process on other forms). Another major con is that a lot of people will get knocked out of getting online before working out what the site is about.

For example, lets work this form out to $1 as a payout to the end affiliate.

At the moment without any real co-reg whatsoever I can tell you that over a 2 week payback period (i.e. the money we were getting within 2 weeks of a registration) in January we were making close to 50 cents per free registration (from memberships, mobile revenue, etc). This is actually a new way of measuring things for us, so now that we are away of this key metric we will look at bringing this up as much as possible (i.e. looking closely how many members each member brings with them, encouraging earlier spend, etc).

At the moment we also have a very short form as well. It takes about 20-30seconds to complete if you are slow (about 5 fields).

My personal instinctive feelings is that we are going to get a far high quality lead when we pay more, however it will turn a lot of would be affiliates off. Would be very interested to hear your thoughts on this.

In closing, I guess one of these things too just involve testing. However, we want to get as much good advice to get this as close to right the first time. Once again, looking forward to your opinion
