    Image Optimization

For thumbs, 88 and 100, the sizes are ~3000bytes and ~4500bytes respectively. When I try to make a thumb and save it as JPG I can get it to ~4500 and ~6000 respectively and that is when the image is seriously pixilated. How does one get an image of good quality to ~3000bytes and ~4500bytes respectively?

SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60. Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.

I am a graphic designer and use photoshop for most things but not for mass cropping thumbs. I would recommend a jpg quality within (Save for Web) of 50-60. You can always test around to see exactly how much these settings will effect your filesize.

If you use imagemagik for cropping, i like to use a jpg quality of 80 for all 88x88 thumbs, thumbs are so important and dont want to hamper with the quality.

i also recommend a small change for the imagemagik default filter:

          -unsharp 1.0x1.0+0.5 -unsharp 1.0x1.0+0.5 -modulate 105

One last option is the program irfanview, you can do batch conversions to change the quality, a very easy way to test with a directory of thumbs with varying filesizes.

          Hope I helped,
