Bulk Email problems (my own list)

Is there anyone out there doing an honest bulk email campaign? I only have about 500 recipients to mail to but it's freaking mad hard to have the task to smoothly.

AOL, for one, rejects everything I try to send. I've tried using a couple of different methods.

1) Direct sending through built-in SMTP server yields relaying errors.
2) Sending through my ISP cuts off at 30 recipients and renders my email account worthless for about an hour.

I have been getting more and more work performing email tasks for builders. We're harvesting our own leads from our websites. But, I'm having a hell of a time sending HTML emails to our gathered lists.

Any ideas?
