Need help converting AVI to MPG

Hey Guys, I'm hoping someone can help me out...

I'm trying to convert a bunch of videos in AVI format to MPG. Does anybody know of any easy to find programs that can do this fairly easily?

someone told me to just change the name as they are basicly the same formate. And it worked for me.
movie.avi renamed to movie.mgp works
