How exactly do dialers work, as I understood a dialup users modem will disconnect and connect to the dialer, how does that company then make its money? I used to work for a long distance company and dialers would just kill their phone bills, for like 5minutes it would cost like $80. The majority of these calls went to Sao Tome. Can anyone fill in the gaps please?

the dialer companies work in conjunction with long distance carriers in small countries like sao tome. they agree to split the long distance fees and the carrier then jacks up the rate.

dialer are also for LAN connection. you do not need to have a modem to connect a dialer. a LAN solution simply ask you to call a local number from your phone and then they give a code to log in. as long as you have the phone on, you can navigate. if you hang up, the connection stops.
we have LAN dialer solutions. contact me at [email protected] for more info.

Dialers only work with international long distance rates when premium rate numbers do not exist. In most major countries domestic premium rates number exist with predetermined pricing set by the local telecom carrier. In these cases the telecom takes their share and then pays the dialer co their share which in turn pays the webmaster a pre-agreed rate per minute pending country. This service works for dial up users and broadband users.
Where premium rate numbers do not exist Telcos offer long distance calls as a form of a premium rate service. Telcos set the pricing and in most cases take the lion's share of the revenue leaving the remainder to be split between the dialer co and their webmasters. In the past, this method did see some abusive billing practices. However, today the pricing in most cases depends on what the market can bear. It makes absolutely no sense in trying to bill more for an added value service than an end user is able to pay for.Comment
