need suggestions for improving affiliate program

some of you (probably very few, i think) may have noticed that i announced an affiliate program in the other forum a couple days ago - but it didn't really get viewed much, and i think probably a large reason for that was that i'd originally set the payout percentage at 25%.

judging by what a lot of these other personals sites pay out, that was probably too low. so i've increased it to 50% - but i need some help--

any suggestions you can give to improve the pitch, make the affiliate program more attractive, etc, would be much appreciated. i guess the basic question is: would you sign up for the program, and if not, why not? what kinds of changes (visual or otherwise) would i need to make for it to be more appealing?

Where is what I have noticed from briefly looking at it.

1. Color scheme is somewhat dark with the blue background. I'd get something more vibrant to make it stand out.

2. Looks very "corporate" in style. Liven up the design work to make it appear as this site is very hot, cutting edge, etc.

3. Navigation buttons only take you to create profile. I'd let the people check out a page or so into it then after 3rd - 4th page take them back to the "create profile".

I wouldnt join a program I cant take a tour of, just like a surfer is less likely to buy if not able to see a taste of whats in there. You want the people sending traffic interested in it.

4. Offer banners / FPA / HPA's premade for use.

thanks for the suggestions... looks like i've got some more work to do.

funny about your comments #1 and #2 - the site just got redesigned a couple weeks ago. i just can't seem to win when it comes to graphic designers.

with #3 -- would you suggest letting people actually into the site a little bit so they can search with real data, or just show them some demo pages so they can see what things look like (mailbox, search results, etc).

There a ton of really good designers on the main board that can really help you out if you have the desire or budget to redo again to make really eye catching.

for #3. - I'd allow for some searching of profiles so the person could see some thumbs of people, see how the mail would look, etc

Once the thumbs are clicked to enlarge you'd then have the sign up page pop up if not a member, and the same thing for if the person wanted to send emails to a memeber.

One thing that I like is instant confirmation of joining a program so I can make my folders for it and get to working. Programs that take a bit in the reponse back can get delayed or forgotten about as the day goes on.

Monthly newsletters and site update news are also a nice way to keep em coming back to check it out again and again.
