As the title states that this is the right place on this forum to ask (newbie) questions here we go. Let me first introduce myself ... i'm the owner of a weblog/linkdump named 'Coolio's Babelog'. It all started as a joke and rather small but nowadays i've about 50.000 pageviews/20.000 unique visitors/day.
At the moment i've been kicked by my current hoster, which had sponsored me for about 9 months. I transfer around 500 GB of data during a month. It all became a little bit too much for my hoster who decided i had to leave/search for another hoster before the end of the month. 2 days ago i found myself a new sponsor who would like to host me for 1 year.
Coolio's babelog, until now, was a free-for-all website and i'm planning to maintain this concept but to be prepared if i have to search for another hosting company i'm planning to become more commercial as well. This means i'll open my babelog for commercial projects. Because i'm rather new in this business i've talked to some people but until now it's all based on rumours that i can earn lots of money with my site (which i can invest in buying hardware/bandwith/...) to keep my site performant enough and refund my hoster some of the bandwith costs.

What am i planning to do :
- open payed links in the left side frame (under the 'friends'-section)
- open small banner-ads in the right frame (88*31 banners)
- text links in both frames (not sure yet)
- and finally webmaster can submit their galleries to be posted in the middle frame.
Offcourse everything against a certain fee.
So, what do you all think about it ... are there people who can help me with this stuff ? Are there things i can maintain myself of do i always have to pass 'thirth parties' to gain the money ?

what about putting advertisments on there? At 20k visitors a day, you should be able to make SOME money at least...
