    Hosting and Bandwidth Providers

I'm new to this and I'm trying to sort through the various claims of hosting companies. Some seem to offer free hosting and free bandwidth. Sounds to good to be true and where's the cotcha.

Who are the top hosting providers and what is a reasonable amount to pay for hosting and bandwidth. I have lots of web cam and movie streams.

Free Hosting usually places their own banners at the top and have a tendency to redirect a % of your traffic away from your site and to their sponsors.

Paid hosting provides you with your own site and no external advertising but you need to be careful selecting the right host. If you feel comfortable driving a KIA then you can get $12 hosting / month, if you want something better you'll need to pay more.

With that said check out the guys at:

There is alot of too good to be true, the bottom line is they cap the MPS this slowdown your site on big when you want it to be at it's best. Same with server cpu they fill the server so high it works to hard at peek times.

A good host and only about 5% actually do this will plan their limits around peeks and give another 20-25% for safe keeping.

This way your customers will love you and recomend other customers and best of all no downtime.

I'm not going to bother reading all the threads in this.

Companies that offer free hosting want something in return such as a banner at the top of your page, etc.

Some affiliate programs offer free hosting to their affiliates without this restriction (For instance, Signup4cash.com offers affiliates their own free virtual hosting account at Reflected.net with unlimited bandwidth, emails, and IP addresses)

If you want paid hosting, you should look for places that buy their bandwidth from multiple providers. If their routers are properly configured this roughly means that a) if one provider goes down, they still have another feed to the internet and b) your traffic will usually flow over the shortest/fastest path from the host to your customer, depending on where they are located.

You should also look for a provider that has a redundant network. This basically means that they have two main routers in case one fails, they still have a live back-up. Most hosting companies do not invest in the infrastructure to offer this, but they should.

A reasonable price to pay for bandwidth is about $75-$100/mbit or about $.50 per gig.

www.reflected.net can offer you the best deal on a dedicated server if you do a lot of bandwidth.

They are offering a 10mbps dedicated server special for $399/month (That's $39.99/mbit including the server). It's doubtful that any competitors on this board can match that pricing with the same quality bandwidth that Reflected offers.

Hosting, like everything else, is a business, of which, profits must be derived, and considerable costs are involved. With hosting, rarely is cheaper ever truly better, unless you're willing to sacrifice on things to save a few $'s. With any hosting company, you have server fees, bandwidth bills, support department, staff, CC processing / merchant fees, advertising, etc. just to begin to name a few. If you think about the relative cost of those things, to truly provide a good service, what must then be given up? Selecting a host is more than simple cost factored in, you must be willing to realize that this is ultimately your business at stake as well. The difference of $5 - $10 a month for an account will be more than noticeable to you when the time comes to rely on your hosting provider.

                                          Best of luck,
