    Kat:

I too installed the program. It actually seems to work quite well. You just have to adjust the sensitivity of the software.

It is quite normal for your computer to be receiving information from your Internet provider on a regular basis - checking on the status of your modem...etc. Chances are that's what it is picking up.

With mine, I did discover that some of m software programs do try and connect with the software company on occassion...sneaky bastards!!

its worked excellent for me, at first I was getting alot of alerts but after a day or 2 once I got everything set to my liking it worked just fine.
I do see alot of people complaining about the size but it only uses 1% of resources on my PC, doesnt seem like much for the added protection.

Hi Everybody! This is my first post so... GO FUCK YOURSELVES!!!

I've been using ZoneAlarm for almost a year now and love it. I too in the beginning was getting "threat" alarms constantly, but after some tweeking they pretty much have gone away. It's the best $0.00 I've spent on software todate!

I'm pretty sure that a lot of the alerts you receive are probably script kiddies knocking at your door ....

If your firewall is configured properly these messages are ignores ...

Properly configured it should just run silently in the backround... just turn off the alerts so it doesn't keep popping up every time it blocks something, and tick the box to allow trusted software access anytime.

If only to stop rogue software checking-in with big brother it's a pretty cool app...

hmmm... unless you have a permanent connection a hardware firewall is maybe a bit drastic...

And seeing as you live in the bushes behind my house I very much doubt that you have a permanent connection - even cable is nothing more then a dream in my area... weve only just progressed from smoke signals.

I wish I understood why everyone had so many probs with Zone. I have used the free version for about 5 or 6 months now and after the first few days I stopped getting alarms unless something is going on with my PC. All I did was set certian programs to not have to ask everytime and things have worked great.

I run lots of beta programs and am always installing nonsense - so zonealarm is always asking permissions. It also doesn't like Bearshare or Audiogalaxy.
The pc is hooked up by cable modem and is on about 18/24 hours a day (i sometimes turn it off when i go to bed - but usually leave it defragging when i'm asleep) so a hardware firewall sounds perfect.
I have been thinking of getting a 486 to use as a mail client (as this is where most virus' come from) could that be used as a firewall? Or would it still be safer to get a hardware firewall?
