Open in a New Window or Not?

Using several links from a partnership/recurring program on the same pages, what do you think is best for generating sign-ups?

    1) Opening the links in a new window (_blank), which means that more links are clicked.

    2) Opening the links in the same window (_parent, _top), thereby 'sucking' the surfer into the sponsor site, away from mine, making it harder to return.

Most sponsors insist on same window opening their links. So you are dictated by the TOS in 90%+ of the cases. Not much to discuss on that eh?

Haven't noticed any signup changes on the ones that we have tried new windows (legal to do under their prog TOS)

Yes, Gemini, all pay per click sponsors have TOS that impose you to open their links in the same window.

However, I'm talking about sponsors paying per sign-up/recurring, and they are more liberal in this respect. Most often they let you open their links in every imaginable way, be it consoles, exit windows etc.

Anyway, thanks for your answer No difference, but I suspect there could be one...
