what will the server be used for ? If it's a web server, then how much bandwith do you have ? The default settings should be ok for most cases. What are your plans for the server ? What kernel/distribution are you using ?
I strongly suggest you learn a little about how Unix/linux works and how to setup a www service like apache if this is a server for public access. Take it from me, if you don't you will leave holes everywhere. If you are running red hat/apache use the web site FAQ's
and study the security issues carefully.
i have installed red hat linux and i have secure web server for linux to,
