    Roadrunner Internet Experiences

Since the local cable company is updating their channel services on March 1st, they will also be offering Roadrunner internet services. I checked out the cox.com website & read up on the info. Sounds much better than installing a second phone line & may be better than forwarding programs (nobody wants to leave a message). $89.95 for setup & $29.95 a month doesn't sound bad since it would keep the phone line open (hell, it's only $9.95 more than what I'm paying for my internet service now).

Let me know if you had good or bad experiences with them.

I've had Roadrunner for two months here in TX and love it. Free install and only $40 a month...took out my second phone line which added up to just about $40 anyway...Roadrunner is faster too!

Jamdin, people would KILL to be in your situation. I have been on roadrunner for around two years now and if I were forced to go back on dialup I would first blow up my local cable company then go have a Big Mac and hari kari.

But seriously, there is no comparison to getting that 2nd phone line. Phone companies rape us as it is with taxes here, taxes there (especially since Verizon took over GTE here). You will be SOO hooked on RR once it gets installed. Believe me, if this is going to be offered where you live, jump on it. It is SOO worth it

Do they not offer a DSL service in your area? I've had two different cable modem providers, and three DSL providers. ADSL in my experience in all three cases has been much much faster on average than both cable providers. And if it's another phone line you're worried about, ADSL runs on the same line as your phone, but doesn't tie up the line. you can talk and surf at the same time no worries.

Thanks, Hazen. The more I think about the more better I like Roadrunner.

No dsl services around here, mrboogity.

Hate to argue with you but there is just no comparaison between cable and ADSL.
Bell Canada offered a free month so we installed it on one of our machines and
kept Rogers wave service on the other.
They were comparable machines and Rogers was at least 40-50% faster. So we're keeping the cable but damn Rogers does go down quite a bit. Were you on Shaw out there? Did you have the same reliability issues? They say it will be resolved come March.
I certainly hope so cause "Ya gotta love that speed".

I've had no problems with Roadrunner other than the email possibly going out one night, but was fixed same day. Love Roadrunner...

If you're able to get RR then try it..nothing like it

I got the Road Runner flyer today from the local cable company & asked a few questions. There were a few things that I didn't like mostly the price ($90 installation fee, $30 a month & another $15 a month for modem rent). I bought my 56k modem just a few months ago plus I don't have a Pentium 166 or equivalent computer.

I think I'll just go with what I got now.

i've had shaw cable, and access communications cable. i've also had rogerswave cable in toronto for a couple months, and all three services blew ass in comparison to any DSL service i've had. downstream, cable was as fast, but upstream there was no comparison, and the consistency in the speeds and uptime of dsl makes it even better yet.

cable providers also hassle alot whenever you transfer alot per month. i transferred only 4GB in 2 weeks, and they shut off my internet saying i was abusing the bandwidth. They're just lucky the upstream sucked or it would've been alot more.

Cable is fine until your area fills up and it bogs. DSL never will. And cable goes down and usually your static changes.

We tried it when it was 90 a month and gave it up for a dialup and a free 2 channel ISDN. Switching back to SDSL soon tho

Hmm I'll have to check with the hubby. I know we resell telocity and another that he thought was a good one. He mentioned something about two ratings, one something like 748? and the other 1.2. One 50 a mo and the other 99 or so. Sorry, I get a little lost on all of that stuff. lol

If any of you want to do telocity, let me know and I'll get you our link. They have a heckuva deal for all sorts of services. No contracts, free equipment, usually no installation charges and the like.

Anyone wanting hi band has to be withIN 3 miles of your local phone company Toll Building tho. Call your ph co and they can tell you. <S> Hope that helps. WIll get the for sure andswers as soon as I get him free to ask. lol
