    Streaming video

    Hi people !

I would like to ask about video bandwidth. For what kind of connections should I optimize my videos and which formats are needed. Earlier was 56, 128, 384 (modem, isdn, dsl). But nowadays most surfers have good connections and I don't know what speed(s) should I use. About the format which ones are needed: realmedia, quicktime, winmedia ? So would you give me a few hints about that ?

    Thanks
    Greets!

        Thanks for the reply !

But what does this mean in kbps I wanna lower con. movies and high as well. I've already asked somebody and he told me the wmv format as well. But how much would be the high quality in kbps ? I set 56 for low con.

              Hi

my advice is that you make the wmv at various
speeds to faciliatate different surfers. You will
nned to make a version in 56 kbs for people on
modems and one in 350 kbs or more for those in
broadband. If you even want to offer an other
opportunity for people on isd than you can
make one version in 100 kbs which is quite a
              good quality

              good luck

              Marco

                  Hi all !

Thanks for all of the advices. But now I have a new problem. When Im converting a video to wmv it converts only for example 14 minutes from a 27 min long video. In a player the video is 27 min so I can watch the full lenght. Im using discreet cleaner for converting and it says when I want to convert ----> MPEG duration is 14 mins. but its really 27 mins. Why is that ? Anybody could give me info about that ?

                  Thanks all
                  Greets !

If you optimize the videos to stream at 56K, they're going to look like shit. You're better off making them look good (160K+) & chopping them so they're small enough for a dial up user to download & then replay locally.

At smsvid.com we sell streaming videos via sms
Check out our bitrates, I don't know them by heart but I do know that they work really fine.

We have specialised in three versions. One for modem users which is OK in my eyes, then one for xDSL users and one for broadband users with more capacity (looks really good in fullscreen imho)

                      Good luck!
