Much Needed Software?

I am a software developer working on new products for web servers. Couple of questions:

1) Do you think a software program that stopped other sites from linking your images via their web pages would be something that you would [ya for? This type of software would save you bandwidth, since you would not be serving images for other sites, however it wouldn't prevent others from stealing your images. It would however prevent them from stealing bandwidth from your server.

2) Do you know of software that is for sale or free that does what I described in #1

3) Do you think that software that would reduce 404 traffic from images and lower your overall bandwidth usage would be something you would purchase. Since 404 messages do not display in the browser when they come from images there is no need to send them.

4) Do you know of software that is for sale or free that does what I described in #2?

what you need is to set up a referrer in your Apache or web server file, so only your site can access the pages.
Then, set up a 404 redirect to go to an advertisers site, and make some cash off the 404's.
This way if someone is hot linking, they will redirect to another site, and it wont hurt your bandwidith

I think you all may have misunderstood the question. It would appear that he is doing some third-rate market research into software for webservers. I can't imagine that he would be able develop any software for webservers considering his apparent lack of knowledge of the subject.

well there are allot of programs to prevent hotlinking from the server
