    real, wmv, mpeg ???

This shit takes forever, so i dont want to have to revist.

I was going for safety, just using "real ver 8" and "mpeg1"

So question is if i use "real ver9" and "wmv ver9", will i get users saying they have to upgrade their real player and do not want to, and will unix jocks say give me mpeg, and will ms users say give me wmv ver8 ?

I want to go realver9 and wmv ver9 and fuck mpeg.

Should i play safe and just do "real ver 8" and "mpeg" ?

We have been through the entire spectrum of players. Several years ago we decided on the most simple solution,
    QuickTime
You will hear all the war stories about this method, however, it enables us, with our proprietary technology to play full length
    adult, blockbuster, or anything else
i.e. over two hours and in excess of 500 MB films.

The films do not download, spool, etc., they play instantly on the desktop. There is no waiting, complicated instructions or controls.

Feel free to check how the films play at HomeTimeMedia or iVODAS Cyber Club .

If we can answer any other questions or give you our thoughts on compression program issue, please feel free to contact us. We're always willing to provide whatever help we can.

iVODAS Cyber Club, the only place on the web which provides its members with feature length adult and blockbuster films, many run over two hours and exceed 500 MB. No pop-ups, downloads, re-directs or waiting.

As strange as it may sound we use
        .mov
and not mpeg. Once again, you'll hear all the arguements about peolpe having the ability to download the files. Anyone that downloads a
        .mov
file can edit, etc. the movie. Using mpeg you loose that ability unless you have some sophiscated software and programmers.

Our position has always been to let anyone that wants to download a movie to let them download to their heart's content. The better for us, they then play from their own system and cease using our bandwidth.

It's pretty much a myth that windows users don't use QuickTime, they do. If you think out of the box and use common sence, your own reasearch will generally put you in the right direction.

RealPlayer has lost much of their marketshare because of their constant effort to hit for a monthly fee simply to use their player. RealPlayer/RealPlayer One/RealOne Player, depending on the day, is more hype than reality of use.

Yes, people that use Mac are no different that those using Windows, Unix, etc. If you have something they want to watch, they will find whatever gizmo that's required to play it. The trick is to make your movies as easy to view as possible for the user.

Quicktime will solve all problems except bandwidth. I decided to go with WMV9 because it offers the best quality vs file size. You can play full screen videos, 6 megs for a three minute video. Only about 1% of my members complain and I can live with that.
