affordable billing solution for new sites

I did some searching but didn't find anything to my liking but did get some usefull information.

First i saw some gay $750 visa fee, well visa can go fuck yourself.

Basically i'm looking for a respected and trusted (or just plain known to surfers like ccbill, ibill, etc)

My needs: No upfront costs, no monthly cost only cost per transaction... does such a thing exists?

the reason i ask is i am setting up the site and would like to add the functionality and test my site(s) and such but i want to keep my startup costs as little as possible. especially considering i dont know when my sites will go live and when or if i will show any income to even cover the costs.

ya i've heard a lot of people saying they love globill.. but i also read some people bitching that the way signup works is confusing for the customers i.e a dropdown located weird.

know any sites that use globill?

what happened to old days when people processed with own merchant accts? It seems that everyone is now 3rd paety. When you take in consideration $750 visa fee, aren't the up front costs lower on own?

With your own merchant acount you are at the mercy of your chargeback rate and can be fined by visa or m/c at any time for any amount they choose like Epoch. Whenyou use a thrid party comapny the average of chargebacks is spread out over thousands of sites. That way when you have a chargeback there is serveral companies that don't. And when you are doing good on chargebacks they get the benefit. Also a third party processor does better fraud scrubbing and maintains your database as well as is your first line of defense for user support if there is login problems. They are there 24*7 and correct issues on your sever when you are asleep.

You are correct about the fines but are incorrect about the spreading of the chargebacks over thousands of sites. Most of the 3rd party processors pass chargeback fees and any fines to the webmaster just as if they had their own merchant account. Some companies do absorb them but for 15%, they should.
THe chargebacks used to be sread over the sites but since the new rules last November, each 3rd party processor (IPSP) has to report each url and the chargeback ratios for each of those sites to Visa and Mastercard every month and if the ratios are high, Visa, Mastercard, or the bank can tell the IPSP to turn off the processing for that account/url.

We have used our own merchant accounts for a long time now and are really happy for many reasons, especially the savings in transaction fees. I know alot of webmasters are getting their own accounts these days again. It is a smart move, in my opinion.

                  Zprogramz,

Been using ccbill for a while. But looking for a merchant account to save on each transaction fee. What do you use or recommend? And do all of them fine you a lot for chargebacks? The fines, also, are there because visa/mc etc. doesn't like to do them at all, or if we have a reserve enough to cover them then they don't mind as much?

I mean we do get our share of people that sign up just to get into a site for a day or so and then get a refund. But the normal dissatisfied customer, we don't seem to have many.

Been meaning to get a merchant account for non adult stuff, but still, for a membership based website. But also going to sell merchandise from that site. Maybe i'll have to get a seperate account to get better rates?

                    Hi,

We save about 40% in fees processing with Netbilling using our own merchant accounts and even more on check processing. They are excellent and handle our customer service too. I know Mitch from Netbilling is on this board sometimes but I do not know much about reserves although I know that we have a 10% reserve on our membership merchant account and a 5% reserve on our online store merchant account.

They Key word there is most Third Party Processors have to report each URL. But not all of them. My processor doesn't have to report our URL's which means there is no 750.00 fee or the new upcoming 1000 fee from the other credit card company. So no credit card company can shut down my site and the ratio is still spread over all the sites using this third party processor.

I'd go with Verotel, they're Europe based company, so you can fuck VISA US rules at all ;)
