Question, for SEO purpose is it better to have the galleries you build to promote your site be on the main domain or be on a sub-domain of the site?

I keep everything on the main domain unless it's really a different site/niche without any ties to the main domain.

But I *think* its better for seo to use gallery.pornsite.com than pornsite.com/gallery

No matter if it's subdomain or domain, the domain and page authority matters. Google treats subdomains as domains. So, if domain has better authority, it has better lonks, higher PR and the content of the page you link from is relevant to the content of the linked page - you win.
