    EU Cookie Law

    Hi

I was just wondering if anyone is worried about the new EU Cookie Law. Basically if your website uses cookies, even for analytics you have to ask for permission first when a visitor comes to your website.

In the UK they are not fully enforcing it yet while they figure out what to do. Does it affect any of your sites, or are you not worried about it?

    Hm, didn't heared about this.
Just asked google any basicly found:
    - the UK is the FIRST Country, who will start this law
    - if your Website isn't hosted in the EU, the law does not apply to you

The ICO has started implementation, http://www.ico.gov.uk/ they have a cookie opt-in on the page now. 90% of users declined to opt-in for a cookie.
Some results analysed here, http://chinwag.com/blogs/sam-michel/...w-drops-use-90 and you can see the cliff edge when they started putting it on there. I imagine that CCBillEU will have to comply eventually as well as anyone else big enough to be above the parapet when they start to try and dish out fines.

The only other option to cookies is to do it via a db, but this would be quite db intensive for a big site to store all the ip address' and the related info then recall it each time, but maybe if it was recalled to a session then this would be one / two additional requests per visitor, would it not.

If not db then it might have to be a flatfile method which could easily just fill a server up with additional text files, but this would have to be done outside of the websites folder as to remain secure so no-one can upload additional files or hack the server itself through the folder being writeable.
