Need a script

I need a script that can generate and maintain .htaccess files or any other way to protect a members area. The script should have a signup form where users can choose a login and pass and the script should then automaticly make that login and pass (adujst the .htaccess file) so the user can login. So it should be instant access. I must be able to put the login form on any page i want.
Got any idea where to get one or does anyone have one?

Are you looking to do this with a paysite, or simply a site you want to protect certain directories on?

The reason I ask, is because just about all processors provide scripts that will automatically add members into your .htpasswd file as the sale is processed. But if you're looking for something different, then please clarify because there are other solutions.

Well, kinda like the freeezine bucks system exept for the fact that i already have a mail opt-in system installed. I was thinking of putting the username and pass form into the email confirmation page so once someone confirms his email address he goes to a page where i put the form to request username and pass, then it gets generated and he can go to the members area.
