    Final Cut Pro Help

So I have been messing around with FCP today and am having problems adding the site logo to the movie.
The logo is in psd format and is transparent. I need to re-size it and move it to the bottom left hand side however I am unable to do this.
Also once I set the logo correctly is there a way to save it so it can be used on other movies without having to go through all the sets each time.

Any FCP experts out there who can tell me how to do this ?

I've always found doing this in FC to be a real pain in the ass so instead of using Compressor to render my movies I use Episode to render my movies and it has a very easy to use watermarking function.

We used to have an editor / encoder on staff so have all the software like FCP, Sorenson Squeeze, etc.

I am by no means a FCP expert, however what I do is have a folder of standard template files which I created, and drag and "Insert" some items in the timeline (Warning, Title, Credits, etc) and I specify the clip length (3-5 secs), whereas with my URL watermark, I set the in point from where I want the watermark to start appearing on the video, and then drag the transparent .png watermark file to the "Superimpose" option in the canvas, and this automatically positions a watermark track above the video track in the timeline.

The default is usually 10 seconds I believe, but you can grab onto the end of the watermark track in the timeline, and drag it to the end of the clip, in order to have the URL display for the duration of the video.

If you Google "Final Cut Pro superimpose to add URL watermark" you can get links to lots of video and text tutorials which may be of further help since they offer various solutions to your issue.

              Good luck...

                I'm just busting balls.

I actually had to purchase an FCP license this week for school. I didn't have to pay full price, but it is still some pricey software.

ADG is on the money with his advice. If you are going to use a .psd make sure the background layer is transparent. Although it is easiest to use a .png as stated.

yes and I learnt how to add text as a watermark with drop shadow etc, however am struggling with the logo, I can insert it into the timeline however it appears in the middle of the screen and I can't work out how to stretch it so it is the same length as the movie. Also I cannot workout how to re-size and move it to the bottom left of movie.

Using FCE I would insert the image into the timeline and then look at it in the canvas. That gives me a frame with handles that I can drag to resize. I can also drag the image around and place it in a corner. Very simple with FCE.

ok i'm not a FCP expert but its actually fairly easy:

to make your title be the same length as your clip, if it's already on the timeline, double click on it and load it to the viewer window. there make sure that the length is about the same as the clip that you want to watermark. if not key in a numerical value for the length on the upper left box in the viewer window, press enter to accept the value then drag the right side of the watermark on the timeline to stretch it and match the length of your clip.

to move the watermark around, make sure it's loaded on the viewer window again then chose the Motion tab. then click on the + sign next to the Center option when the red plus sign shows up on the Canvas window, click on it but do not release the mouse button until you're done moving it around to where you want, then let go of the mouse. repeat that last step until satisfied.

to save the watermark for future use. create a dummy project call it something like Presets (do not close your last project, leave it open). from the timeline drag and drop the watermark to the browser window (usually on the upper left with standard window setup) of the newly created project and voila. your watermark has been saved as a preset. with drop shadows and all.

I use a macbook Pro so like I movie for simple stuff and Imovie on Iphone is great for editing HD video on the go.
I shot a video of my youngest son when he first mastered riding his bike on my Iphone.. Within 10 mins I had edited out some stuff, added a title, soundtrack & uploaded it to facebook.

FCP is like industry standard for movie editing so might as well learn that.
Same reason back in the day I learnt how to do the basic graphic design in PhotoShop.

to make your title be the same length as your clip, if it's already on the timeline, double click on it and load it to the viewer window. there make sure that the length is about the same as the clip that you want to watermark. if not key in a numerical value for the length on the upper left box in the viewer window, press enter to accept the value then drag the right side of the watermark on the timeline to stretch it and match the length of your clip.

to move the watermark around, make sure it's loaded on the viewer window again then chose the Motion tab. then click on the + sign next to the Center option when the red plus sign shows up on the Canvas window, click on it but do not release the mouse button until you're done moving it around to where you want, then let go of the mouse. repeat that last step until satisfied.

to save the watermark for future use. create a dummy project call it something like Presets (do not close your last project, leave it open). from the timeline drag and drop the watermark to the browser window (usually on the upper left with standard window setup) of the newly created project and voila. your watermark has been saved as a preset. with drop shadows and all.
Great info. It worked exactly as you said it would.

So I guess you can save anything in a project that you use many time like music, watermarks, bumpers etc. Then each time you need to use them in a new project you just drag them to the timeline?
