We have tried to find decent tutorials but they seem to all leave major gaps in the process. Like we should already know, or something. . . . and the developers we have found to date have been unreliable.

Did you use http://www.eclipse.org/ for the simple stuff? I have searched for open source for what I want to do and have not found anything that would work. What simple stuff have you done?

Eclipse is a development environment that interfaces with the Android SDK.

We built a few small image gallery and rss feed display type apps.

"suggestive" Apps are allowed, no hardcore though. for that you can go to Mikandi or simply put them on your own site. Which is compared to Apple no problem.

Most of the android white papers assume a strong backing in java already be in place. Has anyone worked with the SDK outside of eclipse yet? Played with the app builder a bit, but was almost to simplistic for me to imagine kicking out the kind of apps I would find useful.

Their app program for dummies assumes you are a really smart dummy ;)

Then it is missing just about every function you would want.

If they added a simple TCP socket it'd make it 1,000,000 times more useful then it is now.
