How much does it cost for selling it? The complete version could be finished in less that 5 days if someone wants to pay for it.

I just ask you to tell me how much does this script cost. I coded it as a hobby, but I think it is a good piece of software, so I can sell it and get some money. If not, I can release it as a GPL too.

No, I did not copy his system because his code is private. The system you see on my box is entirely mine and coded by me. I just made something that does the same, but it's not the same code, nor it's his system.

I just got his idea and made the same soft for my own use.

So, the code is mine and I do whatever I want with it (In this case sell it or release it as a GPL for the public use). This is the reason I'm asking how much could this cost, because if it costs nothing or less that $25 I will release it as a GPL and all will be happy

Copied his system, as in, copied the functionality of it. Selling that might very well get you in legal trouble. (GPL would be safer though)

Preventing someone from copying an idea is difficult unless you have a patent and even then, patents are expensive to defend.

As for the price, I say GPL it... thousands of open source choker clones would make things kinda interesting

Not true at all, posted messages have lead to the investigations of people, but the messages themselves are not considered legal proof of any actions. You can't copyright a concept! The code is subject to copyright, the graphics are subject to copyright, the text is subject to copyright. The concept/idea is NOT.

Choker may or may not be able to argue that his concept is original. But if you want to protect a concept, in general you need to patent it. Since there is no patent, you're fairly safe copying it.

As for legal proof, that can be found anywhere...

Also, for copyrights, a good comparison would be the harry potter/tanya grotter stuff. Everyone can write a book about a kid that learns magic in a magic school, but when it is clearly modelled after something else it may very well infringe on copyrights.

Also, *everything* one produces has copyrights. A common misconception is that copyrights are only applicable when specific notices and such about that are given, but that's most definitely not the case.

I remember seeing CJ scripts in 1997.

Even if I am wrong, how boring would the world be if there was only one "version" of everything.

Give the guy a break, actually look at the software and give him some credit. You will see he has had a few origional ideas of his own and developed a few nice features that choker hasnt got in his script.

Choker: your script is written in C and uses text files (if i'm not in mistake). The mine is entirely PHP work.

It's entirely my own work, so if you claim I have stolen your code, then we both can GPL lisence it (the yours and the mine) and people can see how different are they.

Would you like a dual lisence?

One free for use and modifications with 1% traffic to me and a banner in the admin and webmaster area
Another comercial lisence for some $$$ without banners or traffic payload.
