I would stay away from tablets till later this year... the real key is to work out the key features you wish to use the tablet for and make sure the one you choose has the solutions to achieve it! The ipad is great, cool for surfing sites quickly without powering on the laptops/PC but that’s about all it is Allowed to do ;-)

ipad 2 could bring a lot of surprises - but if you're looking at it strictly through OS glasses i think iOS 4.3 is freggin great on the ipad even in beta. Mainly because of the new gesture inputs which allow you to jump and swipe around without pressing any buttons.

you can wait forever for a decent android tablet that may or may not come out, or get an ipad which has been around a while and just keeps getting better.
the new gestures in 4.3 make the ipad super awesome. i have a great keyboard from zagg.com and use my ipad for everything. everyone i know that refuses the ipad is still waiting around for a decent android, and they will keep waiting.

I played with a Android tablet (sadly can't remember which one!) at CES and wasn't impressed, which bummed me out. I have a droid and liked the idea of staying on one platform.

But i can say i was really impressed with the Blackberry tablet: http://us.blackberry.com/playbook-tablet/

Display was great, nice navigation, super fast, USB, has flash and 1080i HD video. Plus they have said it will be cheaper then an IPad last i heard.

Until you have the latest iPad to compare to the latest android tablet it would be hard to compare. Android is getting a lot closer to being as good or better.

I'm no Apple fan(and a Droid owner), but I do like the Ipad. I use my friend's iPad sometimes,and its pretty cool.

Stick with smart phones and laptops until later in the year. Some time around late October or early November the second generations or even thirds will be out and those will do way more than what is coming down the pike right now. By May we will have some updated ones that blow away what both types of OS do right now.

Smart phones on the other hand are going to really kick ass in March to June with huge updates including dual processors and what not. So stick with what you have and put the cash somewhere safe. Then in May get yourself a better phone than you normally would with the extra saved cash. And in November do the same with a tablet.

The best Android tablet out now is the Tab and its not that great. I have an iPad but an Android phone (Evo). The Motorla Xoom looks promising but only if they make a wifi only version. I dont want to have to buy a $30 a month plan from Verizon just to have a tablet. I can tether 7 devices off my Evo and run them at 4G speeds. The iPad 2 will be pretty awesome and its only a few months away. I would wait until that comes out to make any decisions.
