You know why content theft is a problem? FORENSICS!

There is literally no Forensic evidence left behind by an internet user.

An IP address is easily faked

And there is almost no other way to track and trace users and files.

    Serial numbers can be generated

    Scripts can be hacked

    Your servers can be hacked

    The list goes on........

The only way (this is just an observation not a soloution) That it can be stopped is for more detailed forensic evidence to be left behind by an internet user.

There isn't enough unique information left behind by people viewing or using any website for you to be able to pinpoint the criminal and for you to stop them.

Until there is, people will get away with content theft and file sharing.

    That is all........

Bit of a pointless observation without coming up with a solution too.

Not really, maybe it will spark some ideas.

Don't you agree internet users need to leave behind more information?

While it's easy to fake an IP address, most don't bother. And even less bother to fake their mac address.

If more sites would simply log ip addresses AND mac addresses, then whenever a surfer wants to play smarty pants and use a proxy, there would likely be a record somewhere of his mac address being tied to his "real" (issued by isp) IP address.
          - As soon as I think up a good sig it's going here.

I'd rather leave behind even less information but loads of people seem to be constantly logged in to google and facebook and other things too and happy to let whatever they do be monitored.
