Who here knows much about outsourcing work and where good reliable sources are to hire designers and or programmers? I've heard of adult worker but quite honestly I don't know anything about them and they seem to be charing near the same costs as people overseas but offering you less work. So does anyone know a good reliable place to outsource?

Digipimp,
Here's a link to an article i wrote earlier this week about the exact same topic...
http://www.arsresources.com/articles...business.shtml

This may sound like an asshole thing to say but fuck US companies. They all think they are worth a small fortune. I have a few programmers I use that are from assorted eastern european countries who work for peanuts and do pretty decent work. I would pay at least 5X more to get an american to do the work. Look offshore...WAY offshore.I like pie.Comment

I would tend to agree with this statement, MANY US based companies charge a fortune to do even the simplest programming and design work which is one of the benefits of outsourcing to European and Off-shore companies / individuals.Originally posted by Armed & Hammered

However, with that, also comes the added difficulties of time-zones for example, a programmer in India is going to asleep at 3pm EST so you have to wait longer in order to get your work finished on their time.
That said, there are a few good US based companies who youc an outsource your work to that ARE cost effective, as an example, our programming services are charge at around $10-$15 an hour however, you wont see this hourly charge as we price on a 'per-job' basis.
This is also true for design companies such as webinc, piksaldesign, etc their prices are amazing and, when you compare their turnaround times to that of other design companies in the US.

Yeah, the schedule thing is a bitch sometimes. I find myself adjusting my schedule around people quite often. Really that's not a huge problem though since I do this full time and the time of day means very little to me. More frustrating than that is the occasional language barrier. It takes much longer to explain what I need done and sometimes I am left wondering how much of what I said the programmer/designer really understood.Originally posted by European Lee

if your looking for offshore try elance.com or itmoonlighter.com
....full of russian / pakistan / indian...BUT! be careful. they will quote like 1 dollar an hour, then come back mid way thru and ask for $50/hr...if you dont pay, they will just keep the code. Also, a lot of misunderstandings can happen.
imo, best to go with a US / CANADIAN company that is insured and has been in business at least 2 years.
good luck

You know I have contacted adult workers twice now and no response at all. Maybe they aren't operating anymore.
I was thinking of trying elance or guru.com.Comment

If you have work you want done on the cheap and your looking at getting it done off-shore, hurry up
The greenback is losing ground on most major crossrates.
2 weeks ago, $1 Australian bought 63 US cents. Today its buying 64.5. Everyone is talking about it being up around the low 70's by the end of the year. Its not just the Aussie, its the Yen, Euro and Canadian dollar also..
BTW, timezone shouldn't be an issue. 90% of my customers are in the US, so I work US EST. I'd be surprised if this wasn't the case for most off shore programmers.lol internet.Comment

I know people will talk about outsourcing overseas, but there is a sweatshop within the confines of the US that often goes unnoticed to many: Los Angeles. Lots of people out of work, working for free, working for next to nothing and lots of quality labor to be had. Of course, there are a ton of lazy fucks in LA but everyone is a goldbricker here having come from NYC.Originally posted by Digipimp

Yeah, LA is a big center of wealth but I guarantee you a ton of those people with the "kitted/blinged out rides" have a lease payment taking a big chunk out of their income. I never did understand LA and their cars. Those crazy Californians.Comment
