Will realism replace gonzoism?

Something Litzer said in his Ex-GF content post got me thinking-

Seems like in the last several years gonzo had really been what was driving the adult market. Even in dating you can feel it. What I like about the Ex-GF niche, and what I would like to see follow, is a return to more realistic porn. Content isn't really my game, but where do you guys see things going? Do you think that the rise in Ex-GF is a response to burn out on Gonzo? Is EX-GF just a fad or do you see it as possibly the next step in a coming trend?

This is pretty much along the lines of where I would like to see content going, from my personal point of view. From a business standpoint, I do see what you're saying. I think it can certanly be done- creating and ammassing legal self shot lo-fi content, but I also see where it can be sticky. What's the reward for someone who goes through the pain of crafting and building an awesome amateur library when someone else can come along and scrape it and slap the words "user submitted content" on the page and make the same money for a fraction of the overhead.

Content theft is something the whole adult industry is suffering though on all niches and production levels. I think possibly an advantage to this over studio produced is typically the theives seem to be putting most of it behind members areas, so at least you could see it as competing paid against paid instead of paid against free as many of the bigger names in adult seem to be struggling against.

That's all well and good and - for the most part - I agree.

But I when I say "Project P" I'm talking about the Ontario Provincial Police's child pornography unit. Around 1998-2001 I had a partner. This asshat ran the technical aspects of my business, while I updated websites and handled promotion.

It turns out that while I was promoting Wifey, Oral Amber, Dagny, Queeny Love, etc; (all old-school home made porn at the time), he was uploading terribly nasty stuff to hidden directories that he would share with his "clique" - all of it hosted on servers that were owned or rented by me.

Getting down to it, the cops didn't care that I was a smut peddler. Even at that time they knew I was being used. They finally got him in Australia sometime in 2003.

Meanwhile, I let every domain he was involved with drop - and I lost a LOT of profitable domains.

I thank my lucky stars that the cops were reasonable, and fucking right I co-operated with every step of the investigation.

But I also know that there is still a list somewhere with my name on it. And there is no way I will touch or promote random uploads again.

Where's the money?

Very few people can shoot like Viv and even though the market is small, the profit is high. Because of the lack of supply.

The bottom end of the market has a far larger market, yet the profit is low. Because of the over supply.

If the sellers were making more money, they could spend more on content. The profits dictate the prices they can pay.
