Seems to be a bunch of different dating website scripts and software packages out there, anyone have some recommendations? Something not completely loaded down with shit with too many features, just a basic profiles, pics, email system

There isn't one that automates friend requests as a standard feature.
Socialengine is not the way to go, it looks good but struggles with many members... it's very complicated.
Unless your writing your own, your best off using osdate as a base script and modifying it to suit your needs.
It's free and open source too, so no hassles there

You could even turn AdultVideoScript in to a dating site, it has albums, profiles, messaging, friends and videos!
Simple architecture and pretty fast too!

Interesting posts andrew thanks, I'm not looking to be a huge blah blah blah, I would like to start a small swingers place biased around multicam chat. I have no interest in fake profiles or any kind of auto submit processes.

I am configuring a site running on phpfox today and am loving what I'm seeing.

of course, all of the bells and whistles cost extra via plugins but even the basic script is kick ass!

I love social engine too but everyone says that it has issues at like 800 concurrent visitor load but phpfox doesn't have similar issues.
