Hi guys, I know we have done the ISP speedtest many times before.

However, I am paying for 50mb, which is about the best you can get in the UK. I know, I know, you lucky US peeps on your 140s and 160s.
Ive just done a speed test & fuck me....



Is that a big us to Virgin Media in Britain or what!

The speed stays good all day & night, however, if I download my whole server (300gb). After a day the service slowed down for a few hours over night until the next day. I suppose thats pretty understandable.


I know for a fact that BT, which includes companies such as bulldog, cannot keep up with Virgin with Broadband as they dont have the same connections. Also, I have heard through good source, the upload speed is soon to be upped to 50mb & for those on 10 and 20mb download, its going to 1.5mb upload!

Your upload speed sucks donkey balls. I find upload speed to be more valuable when it comes to posting updates reliably.

Yeah, I was stunned to say the least when I saw it for the first time. I had no idea what it was capable of when I ordered it. I'm in Sacramento, though.

It's a seriously solid connection. In the 4 months that we've had it, I've not experienced a single outage. With the DSL we had from AT&T, it was always either a router problem or a connection issue... at least a couple times a month.

Here in the UK, most upload speeds are still well under 1mb. All UK lines are max of 1.5 & im on 1.6 so thats not to bad! Still got better download than you Mr xenigo

Out of curiosity, how much you paying for that fat British pipe?

I'm way behind the rest only because they don't want to connect fibre to houses atm, only apartments, but I get 21mb down/3mb up (bit, bot byte) + free world telephone + HD freesat for €30/mo which is standard in France.

From what I've learned, the free world telephone calls is something that BT do not want to relinquish, so because all/most operators travel through BT pipes, they don't allow VoIP landline capability, thereby crippling this selling point.

Just installed a new router to handle this 100mbps line... 6pm here.. curious to test again late at night.

Agreed. Thats the only downfall with the UK for a few more months. As said previously, I hear that Virgin are upping their upload speed to the same as the download. So hold your horses for a month or so & ill whip up the 50mb upload also! To save time for uploading content, I usually do the html as its uploading. It works well.
