RS-232 Question

I have this Sony Time Lapse VHS recorder hooked up to my CCTV system and last week somoene told me to get a RS232C cable and plug it in to my computer and to the Sony so I can view the tape.

Now I did that, anyonw know what I do now, is there software I need?

I cant find anything in the guiode or on their site.

The rs232 port is a serial connection that can be used for control of your time lapse VCR (see http://www.cctvsoftware.com/control.htm if that's what you want to do). But to monitor/capture the video image, you need to connect to a video capture device, such as a video capture card with BNC connectors.

pinnacle have some cheap "home" capture cards ( like this one )

Pinnacle is good. Also, you might want to consider the Osprey-210. With the supplied breakout cable, you have the option of a variety of analog sources, which might be a consideration in the future.

Not to worry, EscortBiz! The BNC connector carries the same analogue video signal (technically known as a "composite video signal") as does the RCA phono jacks that are usually found on video capture boards.

Radio Shack carries a phono plug->BNC adaptor for about $5.00 that can be used. Attach that to the back of your VCR and simply connect it to the capture card with a regular male-male phono plug cable if it doesn't have a BNC connector.

I've used them both, and I like them both.
I think they Osprey is slightly better heh.
