Saw an attempted jewellery store heist on TV the other day: the guy behind the counter had a pistol pointed at his face (gangsta style), but he deflected it then disappeared under the counter and came out firing. One of the robbers was shot (twice I think) and ended up in a wheelchair. Turns out the guy behind the counter was a former US Marine.
