I have tried many linux distros, and I would have to say that Ubuntu will be the easiest for someone that, as I understand, is a "beginner" (since she wants to use an old PC). Ubuntu does not look too much windows, but if you help her and install a new theme, I am sure she will get a windows "feeling". Alternatively you could install kubuntu, but.... harder to navigate, I think. Go for ubuntu. More help for it on the net as well...... -

thanks guys. my only experience of linux (centos) is on my servers. am i correct in thinking that ubuntu is completly GUI based so that she wouldn't have to do any dos prompt style typing, it's all point and click? yes she's a beginer she's my aunty in her 60's and has never used a PC before.Last edited by roly; 07-23-2009, 03:57 AM.Comment

+1 for ubuntu it's user friendly usually recognise all hardware and don't have problem with drivers, by defult it has gnome but KDE is pretty good and windows lookalike, it' easy to use and learn and great community behind it.Comment

Mint. It's based on Ubuntu, just a little more comfortable for Windows folks.
