When a good affiliate manager leaves a program....

Have you ever felt like jumping ship and going with another sponsor in same niche? I had this feeling all weekend.

I know having someone you can trust and get things done with at a company is huge. However as a program owner I think it's important to remember that you are doing business with the program. You are trusting that program not the affiliate rep. I'd recommend contacting the owner before jumping ship. You may be pleasantly surprised

I did that a few weeks ago. The program fell apart and had tons of accounting errors. I dumped them shortly thereafter.

Yes, some affiliate managers are very helpful in that they provide good advice, support, banners, answer questions etc. Sometimes that is exactly what makes one sponsor better than another.

Good affiliate manager? Yet to see that. What in God's name would you need other than a pass to the members area... a shoulder to cry on?

More then just a members area access.

I often helped affiliates work on their sites, especially ones that were new to this industry.
I also created a great deal of custom promo material for them.

Hell i even offered my personal mobile/cell number for support when i wasn't online.

Sometimes when a good rep departs it can be a sign of things to come with a sponsor, but that's not always the case.

Personally, as someone who's built and overseen affiliate programs, I think account managers should be more than just glorified customer service. If an affiliate manager doesn't have the know how to strike out on their own and make it as an affiliate themselves then I haven't done my job.

In all fairness give the company a chance. People leave for lots of reasons, it's not always a bad thing.

I feel that I'm a good rep, but I would not want an affiliate to drop the program because I left or got fired. Especially if you're doing good with the affiliate program why drop them?
