I'm pretty sure that Dave's job is pretty safe, and I only hope that Palin runs for Prez in 2012, since she will definitely throw a monkey wrench into any hopes that the Republican Party has to present themselves as a party that can be taken seriously on the National scene, yet alone win a National election.

I don't think Jeb Bush in 2016 could bring them back from that (although I am not counting him out for 2012 as the top or bottom of the GOP ticket either)...

Sarah Palin was not so much offended about Dave's joke, as she saw it as a political opportunity to re-ignite and inflame her ignorant supporters by her and her husband suggesting quite clearly that David Letterman is a pervert whom can't be trusted around 14 year old girls, and that he somehow supports child rape of minors.

The governor's spokeswoman, Meg Stapleton, sent these two statements, the first from Todd: "Any 'jokes' about raping my 14-year-old are despicable. Alaskans know it and I believe the rest of the world knows it, too."

The next was from the governor: "Concerning Letterman's comments about my young daughter, and I doubt he'd ever dare make such comments about anyone else's daughter, 'Laughter incited by sexually-perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/NY entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands -- that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone's daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.'"

Tuesday afternoon's "Fire David Letterman" rally proved to be a failure, as it drew more press than activists, CNN reports:
A crowd of 15 protesters upset with the late night comic held signs and occasionally shouted as they stood across the street from Letterman's studio.

But they were often hidden from view by the more than 35 members of the media there to cover the protest, and out-shouted by a few very vocal counter-protesters.
