You have a point there. A big part of Google's success is its ability to evolve rapidly unlike AltaVista which just got bent over...

It's an arms race and judging from Google's annual pace of patent applications, it's a race that Google has devoted sizable resources to.

So much for throttling link juice. Good thing there's other tricks out there. Just judging from a few BH forums, Matt Cutts' pronouncements always seem to invite the "Insert Timeline here" graphic. SEO evolution = darwinian arms race.

Something is going on because on one of my sites I normally get around 200 or so hits a day from Google but from the 2 June it has suddenly jumped to over 450 a day and I havent even updated or touched the site in the last 3 weeks and I havent changed a thing on the script

Google is only going to keep getting better at spotting bullshit. The best advice for newbs is in the last sentence in that post
Instead of playing games, stick with tried and proven ‘ultra white hat’ practices? Produce quality content and build ethical links.
If you added up all the time the average newbie webmaster spends trying to find a "secret trick" to get lots of traffic and money, and had them spend that time building a site people actually want to visit, they'd be much better off, and more secure in the long run.

In terms of link juice though, I wonder if this means every time someone puts a link in the comment section that it devalues all of your other onpage links, even if comments are set to nofollow?

You're right, Lenny. Bottomline, the best SEO starts with high quality content.

look out board bots just became a whole lot more valuable
spam every board with a keyword stuffed signature and steal all the traffic you can

Good thing I always wear my whitehat

Doesnt really matter. If you cant get top results with white hat then your always gonna struggle long term. I almost garuntee that black hatters put more effort into blackhat then I do with whitehat in the long run lol. I get steady results too.

I dunno, I guess I just dont get it. :/
