If you have your phone jailbroken and know a little coding it's really easy. Good speed but it will eat up your battery and the thing will be very hot. But the 3g speeds are nice if you're on the road.

I know with a jailbroken iphone, you can surf the internet with the 3G access iphone plan, using the iphone as a modem. But it's crippled by apple in the non-jailbroken iphone. 3G on a MBP is gonna be slow, like 56k modem slow.
iphone using a wifi router is fast surfing on the phone...
