How common is it?

I am currently promoting two programs that I suspect have reverse shaved. I got a quick sale on each one, right after I started sending them traffic. Now, a few thousand uniques later.. NOTHING.

Anybody else seen that happen?

I hate divulging very common tricks of this business.

I've also noticed with a couple sponsors that I don't send much traffic to anymore. I'll look through my stats on their site for the first time in ages. No sales for months. What do you know 30 seconds after I have done that I get a sale. Magic!

well when you get a sale as soon as you start sending traffic, perhaps it's just that the one person on your site that perfectly fit the niche in the site you are promoting signed up right away, and the rest of your surfers don't give a crap. Happens to me over they years with my own sites trying a new traffic source, and I don't reverse shave myself ;)

New sells for a lot of people, it has a different "NEW" feel. Then perhaps the novelty wears off?

Webmaster gets sale, is still well under payout minimum, lets traffic stay at program or sends more for numerous reasons, mainly to get his payout.

Give one sale, to guarentee you get more, pretty simple concept, and yes it happens. I get sales from a couple programs 'out of nowhere' to remind me about them, amazing what a well played check can do.

In all fairness, this scenario depends a lot on what kind of timeframe.

for example: you could have started promoting 6 months and got a couple sales back before the shit hit the fan.

the longer the time frame the more common, shorter less common

if you just started and you send 1000 hits a day i would keep my eye on it over the next couple days

ps: i don't think anyone is giving you sales to stimulate you to send more.

Sometimes a good webmaster who sends joins on a regular basis hits a rough patch, and to keep them happy I'll add a few sales to their account. Also if I hit up a webmaster and ask them to try us out and our sites and their traffic are not a good fit I'll throw them a few sales just for trying us out.

I remember years ago, you emailed clickcash and said "something funny is up, I haven't made a sale this week when I would have normally made 5 by now." This usually resulted in a sale or two magically appearing... optionally a reply saying that everything looked fine.

Because that makes no long term business sense and honestly it is not only way to easy to get caught ending up in a fucked reputation, it requires way to damn much work.

Especially when you can apply a few sales, force some extra payments and presto people start talking or sending even more traffic which results in better chances for the program. It also is very good at keeping traffic in place. When you see an affiliate who normally does a sale a day and then a few days of no sales, dropping in a sale or two keeps morale up and traffic flowing for whatever glitch there was.

my fav reverse shaving was a new program i was about to start using... and i always do test sales myself... asked the sponsor if i could do this, they said No. First time ever I got that reply so all they got was one click when i tested the link. The day after I got a new sale email.

From type in sales, self generated sales, etc.
Any solid program produces at very least half if not way more of their own sales.
Just so you know it happens on revshare as well and yes they keep the rebill - assuming it does.
