Any good ones? Trying to build a few local directory sites but having a tough time figuring out what to use, I was going to use a Joomla one but I've almost never used Joomla before and I didn't want to learn it...or is it worth it? Any other stand alone scripts people can recommend? Anyone have one set up on a site that they can sell me all set up so I can just modify it??

Check out JMB's LinkX http://jmbsoft.com/software/linkx/ tis geared toward adult webmasters, but would do fine as a mainstream directory as well. -

eSyndiCat runs circles around phpLD. eSyndiCat has an active support forum plus many different templates. It's a nice script with a reasonable price. Depending on your needs the free version of eSyndiCat might work well. You can always upgrade ($75) later.
It's amazing the number of people who won't bother to submit once they spot the distinguishable phpLD submit form. They have learned there's about a 50/50 chance of it working correctly and/or finding the recip link.
Try the free eSyndiCat
just sayin .....
