A couple weeks ago I saw the movie "Role Models." In it I learned that the reason Starbucks calls their largest coffee size a venti is because venti is Italian for 20, and they are 20 oz drinks. It all makes sense now, and I love learning trivia like that.

I guess I was talking to my assistant about it and she wondered if Starbucks had trained all their employees of this fact. I made a mental note to ask the next time I went to one.

When TPF was over goodgirl and I went over to the Starbucks next to the hotel to pick up a couple venti mochas for the drive to Vegas. Since Tempe is a college town, and the barrista appeared to be a coed, I figured she would be the perfect candidate . . . she had to know. Right?

Me: Do you know why the venti is called a venti:
Her: I am not sure, I just know it is a Greek word.
Me: Greek?
Her: Yes.
goodgirl: Well, it is Greek to her.

I agree. If I was at a Starbucks that was not hiring college students I probably would not have even asked, but I was a little frightened at the "Greek" response. As you noted, it doesn't even sound Greek.

Maybe if it was ventiopulous.

Thats funny. I watched my buddy get into it with a starbucks girl because he refused to say venti. But, she was way out of line and turned into a bitch the second he said "large" it was like a scene out of a really bad movie, for a monrnt all you could hear was "no you mean, VENTI"

I myself get my coffee from home. I dont know if its different in your neighborhoods, but at our starbucks everyones a fucking weirdo beatnic with a laptop. Strange crowd to deal with for a cup of expensive coffee.

Wow, I had near the same experience at that little starbucks booth in the hotel at Miami Internext. I wanted a large coffee, asked for a large coffee and got told they don't have large, they have a venti. To which I replied I don't give a fuck what they want to call it, I just want a large coffee.

From that point on I watched them pour it to make sure they didn't spit in it.

On another Starbucks-related note... I had a good laugh when I found out what they call a coffee with three shots of espresso in it (at the one around the corner from me, at least).

One shot added = a "red eye"
Two shots added = a "black eye"
Three shots added = a "JFK"

Gotta love that.... unless you're a Kennedy, I suppose.
