Reset admin password on a computer?

the family computer, had the admin password changed to the ONLY admin account.
So installing most programs to recover the password is not allowed without admin access.

We can only sign on non admin accounts or as guest!

Any suggestions?

That's a good option, but I've found that it has problems with some SATA controllers.

simple.. take out the battery.. wait 5 minutes and put it back in.
