    compact disc turned 30

so the 30th anniversary of the CD is this month. really changed the music biz. first it made them the biggest entertainment biz, with better sound, and re-releases of back catalogs from vinyl to CD that so many upgraded. It also paved the way for it's downfall with the introduction of digitized music. interesting for sure.

... in before some wanker starts prattling on about the 'warmth' of vinyl.

First CD set I bought was a set of Tchaikovsky CDs. $10. 3 years later, I owned a CD player.

first cd I bought as a kid was dire straights brothers in arms. Which I lost at some point. I really need to replace it. I think the year for me was 1985.

Probably the longest lived piece of digital technology the world has seen. Can't believe the shitty things have lasted this long. It would be like everyone still using Atari 2600s as gaming consoles instead of improving to xbox, etc. Even stranger is that MP3s have taken us backwards. Only goes to show how fucked up the music business really is.

You do realize the music indusry is not responsible for proliferation MP3s. They became popular because that's what all the illegal downloaders liked. The music industry was perfectly happy selling CDs to everyone.

I worked in the music business and I am glad to see the industry collapse because of the mp3 and illegal downloading.
