    are boycotts effective?

i don't really think so, unless it's REALLY DAMN BIG. i mean, come on. all of us on here could boycott mcdonald's, and they wouldn't even flinch. now cut off a country's complete trade line, well, not even all countries would die off that way either, just the little ones...

russia survived without the trasnsistor, even threw it in our face by making faster computers and modems.

    bastards.

hell, omaha could boycott mcdonald's, it'd be very little skin off their back, worst case they raise the price of supersizing your meal $0.13

oh wait... 3com made the modem, but it was to sell to russia ;)

Ask Jesse Jackson. The guys whole career is made on it.

Ask the NAACP, they have a bit of experience in the area.

Boycotts are effective if the organization boycotting you is a huge corporation who can make or break your career via blocking distribution or promotion of your product.

The Dixie Chicks boycott can be effective because Clear Channel is the one pushing the boycott and they control a huge percentage of the radio stations in the United States.

If some country music fans decided to boycott the Dixie Chicks, it would mean almost nothing. If Clear Channel boycotts them, they will be gone in a couple of years.

Coincidentally, Clear Channel, the organizers of the Dixie Chicks boycott, are also the distributor of Rush Limbaugh's radio show.

You do realize there are non Clear Channel country music stations too, right? Many of them also have a "boycott".

Know why? The radio stations are receiving so many requests from LISTENERS to STOP playing them, that they have decided to set their CDs aside.

I suppose that's just propaganda though, right?

You're probably right. Blaming it all on Clear Channel is lame though.

One company can not own more than 50% of the radio stations within a specific region. So they probably do own half.

Just curious, where in the mid-west are you?
