    Simple htaccess Question

I am working on some blogs, and for the permalinks you need to have

    htaccess file
    set permissions
(this I know how to do in FTP)

PHAT tells me I just have to create a file named htaccess and upload it to the server for that domain.

So I am guessing I just use notepad, save a blank file, name it htaccess and upload it then?? I am guessing no extension?

      Its .htaccess. (Dot before htaccess)

Also a dot as the first character in the filename makes it hidden. So don't freeak out if you don't see the file. You can list it with a "-a" option.

Yes, make a file in notepad and save it. Then rename the file ".htaccess" do not include the quotes and make sure the file is not named .htaccess.txt

If it's wordpress, it should be generated automatically..

Ah ok. Just wanted to ask and make sure.
Normally I leave all the tech stuff (even simple things) up to PHAT or the coder-designer.

In this particular case, I was having some trouble understanding (the simplicity) to it.

I wanted to know how to do it myself to avoid delays with PHAT, and because of the bigger scope of things to do the blog installations, and so on.

                Thanks fine chappies.

Yeah, so I had heard, but it's not doing it.

My guess is something to do with permissions, so manually needs to be done for the blog(s).

If you're using WP 2.7, check for .htaccess in the cgi-bin. Move it out into your public_html folder and make sure it's permissions are 666 and you should be able to set your permalinks to whatever you want.
