home file server question

ive got one question, i work primarely now on my laptop my desktop is functioning as my music, movie and backup box. However ive got em connected thru the modem so copying of files from one to the other goes as like i am downloading from the web.... i want it to go as fast as copying files on one pc you know. is this possible?

IF you dont want to establish a network, then buy a 32 or 64gb USB stick.




There are some USB/Firewire NAS storrage avalible, but they cost a little to much to be productive

ill have to look into the term 'workgroup' i dont know shit about this stuff
