HELP: under attack from Chinese spam forums

so have this small site on one of my servers, a string of chinese spam forums is trying to hotlink 3 galleries, basically making my server unreachable:

they are maxing out Apache MaxClient with too many requests

mind you hotlink protection is on, the amount of 404 is enough to create 2GB a day in transfer

the first day, when hotlink protection was off, 1 gallery caused 57 GB of transfer!!!!

Does anyone know how to stop these requests before they hit Apache?

Those idiots at Serverbeach support are useless, they suggested to upgrade the server

for the begining you may block hotlinking with htacces and block china traffic and redirect the shit to a trojan site as well. After that,find the scumbag and take him down reporting to his host

htaccess is your friend. about 2 seconds of searching on google you will see the code you need.

Get your DNS banned by "great firewall of China" = get the block for free with 100% CN traffic only blocking. You can achieve that by putting some big taboo articles (anti-governmental) about China, and the hotlinked gifs you can put some anti-governmental text in Mandarin on it as well (you can GOogle something), this will cause huge trouble to the hotlinkers, they might go to jail for it. Eye for an eye...

it's not the 57GB that's causing the trouble, it's the insane amount of requests Apache has to handle, the processors and memory are actually not stressed at all.
See it as: too many people trying to enter through the same door at once, causing a queue to form.

I think there is a way to do it at the firewall level so that the requests will never get to apache.
