New Computer For Rendering Video ???

I am looking at getting a new Computer for rending video as we're about to start shooting some High Def stuff, what are the important spec things to look for ? Is it memory, is it graphics memory, is it graphics card, is it speed of processor ?

This is the spec for a computer I seen, not a great brand "Advent" but is the spec any good for rendering ?

foe the same price i could build 2 quad core lower end systems and get more work done.

do the actual users of new egg render video? Its your party but from what I read its not a shocking extra amount of speed for the cost.please report back when you get it

Don't get anything unless it its an i7.

I have 5 systems total for 3d animation. One of them is an i7 and it renders frames literally 2.5 times faster than the others(all quadcores also). If it can crunch 3d that quick, I imagine it would eat video encoding as a snack.

You?re going to love that computer. I ordered the parts from NewEgg.com and I?ve been running it for 2 weeks now. Vista Ultimate installed so fast that I thought I did something wrong. Rendering a 25 minute HD scene with transitions, watermark and some color correction took under 12 minutes to render to an AVI file on an external eSATA hard drive. The same file took under 16 minutes to render to an external USB hard drive. My setup is as follows:

If you're into it, you can overclock the i7 920(cheapest version). Got mine up to 3.8ghz stable.

Also regards this new egg company do they assemble the machines after you spec them ? If so I might have to find out if they ship to the uk...

It uses the nvidia quadro nvs 290 grafx card

It have a onboard SAS Disk controller, so build it with two 146 or 300gb sas 15k rpm disks, and you will have a system you can use the next years nonstop without ever having a hardware faliure.

Get a Firewire I/O card, and a small external disk enclosure for the grunt storrage


If you have any money left, buy a video-boardset

The renders from HD to AVI were done with Adobe Premier Pro CS3.

Speaking from experience... quadcore or bust... make sure your getting a 64bit setup to handle that extra ram properly... i don't care how many rpms your hd tells you it does, raid the mother fucker sata2 x2 drives or more, with speed limiters disabled... the more power in the better, and watch your ram timings...

Since you?re running Vista 64, up the RAM to 6 Gigs.

I like the motherboard they?re offering. You will be very happy with it. Once you get the system, download the latest drivers and utilities for the motherboard from Asus? web site. The Express Gate utility is pretty sweet.

I'm about to build a new core i7 920 for video transcoding... probably next week. It seems the way to go. 6GB RAM and Vista 64. Mild overclock to 3.2 or so.

That's great to hear, I also use Premiere Pro CS3 and render HD video to Cineform AVI for my intermediate files.

I have a p3 laptop doing it all fine
