Computer techs ? Win xp on a amd 64?

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor 3500+ with 2 gigs of ram

    Win xp media center

it locks up from time to time or when you do any type of scans with having Reg xp installed instead of xp pro 64 or vista 64 would this cause these problems?

    Thanks

You don't *NEED* to have a 64bit OS running on a 64bit CPU. When does it lockup? Windows PCs crash...

It will lock up at random times or when ever I do a virus scan did this the first day! It also does it with videos! *shrugs* Just trying to fig this out before trashing it and buying a new one.

                Lockups

If it is locking up during scans and video playback you have a few things you can check:

Make sure it is not overheating; If you get corrupted graphics on the screen or lockups with no error message this is a prime candidate. A program like 'speedfan' can help you monitor your temps.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for the system installed. A brand-new system will still usually have out of date drivers.

It could also be a RAM issue; you can run a program like 'memtest86' and see what you get.

If you're not comfortable working on the system, might be a good idea to get a good tech to look at it for you.

                Hope this helps.

I'm running that setup and have no problems with it. Works great.

If it's locking up during a virus scan, you may have a virus that it can't remove or is blocking it. You might try a different scanner, for example Spybot Search & Destroy.

Rev's list covers most of the other things I'd recommend. The only other possibility is your hard drive could be having failures.
