7. Server management (Linux, BSD)
8. SEO/SEM and social traffic generation

mrkris is a good dude and a coding fiend - he talks way over my head but he has a passion for coding that other programmers don't seem to have. he's done small stuff for me and he didn't even charge me! he felt bad that he couldn't take a fairly big job for me since he was full time in house at the time so he did the small mods for me for free.

I can't even begin to comprehend why someone would use a proprietary language on a proprietary server platform. It boggles my mind. Anyway, to answer your question, pick up PHP. You'll be glad you did.

I agree...but what people are saying is that if I am going to put an effort i should go for RR just because it has some of the similar stuff that i do such as MVC etc.

Lots of frameworks for lots of different languages use the MVC system. RoR doesn't have a monopoly on that. CakePHP is decent. http://cakephp.org/

Cute, but I used to work as an administrator for Sprint and then H&R Block. I had my MCSE for years. I have worked in an enterprise environment and I can comfortably say that Linux and open source languages are far superior...especially for what we do. Windows and .NET are fine for a corporate environment (if you're into that whole corporate thing).

Really, we just build websites and sell porn. That's it.
